Reading by Moonlight

When Brenda Walker went into hospital for cancer treatment, she considered carefully the books she would take in with her as part of her healing process.  Disjointed in places, and fondly surrounding the books that have made an impact on the entirety of Walker’s life, this non-fiction collation of Walker’s reading acts very much like a “Lit 101” – a basic introduction to some of the key books that avid readers should be aware of.  Walker’s insights and parallels between her physical life and her reading life are reasonably entertaining although I would have hoped to have had that higher level of engagement that would have made this unmissable.  Its not, but it will find its audience amongst those of us who find the concept of books shaping lives delicious.
